Welcome to My World of Music
Rabindrasangeet is my Passion, my Profession, my Identity
It has been a little over 30 years since Rabindranth and Rabindrashangeet became an integral part of my life. I was first introduced to Rabindrashangeet when legendary Tagore exponent Kalim Sharafi taught the song ‘Alo Amar Alo Ogo Alo Bhuban Bhora’ in my first formal Rabindrasangeet Class at Sangeet Bhaban in 1983. Since then I have kept on learning songs after songs. Initially it was the melody, rather than the lyrics, that attracted me the most. My regular life then got divided into two parts. One part was my regular school life and the other part was my music life that was immersed in the pursuit of Rabindrasangeet. After completing 9 years long certificate course in Rabindrashangeet from Shangeet Bhaban, I took intensive one on one training from Sadi Mohammad and Mita Huq for many years. During this mentorship I slowly learnt the importance of understanding the essence and meaning of the songs without limiting myself to tunes only. One of the most important lessons that I have learnt from my mentors is to maintain the purity and authenticity of Tagore's music while performing.
Years of performance on local and international TV channels and at public programs have also helped me gain acclaim throughout the Bengali speaking communities globally. I am extremely blessed to receive so much appreciation from Rabindrashangeet lovers from around the world and most importantly I am blessed to have the best mentors in the Indian subcontinent. They didn’t just give me music training but also instilled the values, confidence, and humanistic attributes in me. They taught me the significance of being humble, honest and dedicated to my work. I hope to continue discovering newer facets of Rabindrashangeet and sharing them with music lovers everywhere.
